MOULTRIE — After the first week of Region 1-6A games was called off because of a devastating Hurricane Helene, the league’s six teams — four of which are unbeaten — will be back in action on Friday.

The three matchups will be the same ones originally scheduled to start region play on September 27.

Camden County will travel to Bazemore-Hyder Stadium to meet Valdosta in what is an intriguing matchup of ranked teams sporting 5-0 records.

Camden, ranked No. 4 in Class 6A, hardly resembles the successful teams coached by seven-time state championship winner Jeff Herron, who retired after last season. Replacing the wing-T favored by Herron is a decidedly more pass-oriented attack under new head coach Travis Roland.

Camden leads the region in passing with 1,067 yards in wins over Brunswick and four Florida teams.

Parks Riendeau, Camden’s junior quarterback, leads the region in passing, throwing for 1,030 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Georgia-committed tight end Elyiss Williams has caught 33 passes, including six for scores.

Valdosta, 5-0 and ranked No. 9, has been riding a successful blend of precision passing and hard-nosed running.

Deron Foster has rushed for 458 yards and Georgia committed Todd Robinson has rushed for 305 more.

Robinson also has thrown for 950 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Lowndes at Colquitt County will feature the 5-0 Vikettes against a rebuilding 3-2 Packers team that had dropped two in a row to North Gwinnett and Lee County before knocking off Rickards High of Tallahassee 44-13 on September 20.

Lowndes, following two straight losing seasons, is leading the region in both rushing and total offense.

The Vikings have two of the top seven rushers in the region in Aalim Brown, who has rushed for 440 yards, and Marvis Parrish, who has 372.

The two average 13.8 and 12.4 yards per carry respectively.

But despite the perfect record and the gaudy offensive numbers, Lowndes is not ranked among the top 10 teams in Class 6A.

Richmond Hill, which will play host to Tift County on Friday, is the other region team that is unbeaten, but unranked.

Surprisingly, Richmond Hill has been able to win five straight games despite being ranked last in the region in passing.

Led by region rushing leader Joshua Troupe, who has gained 534 yards on 75 carries and has scored nine touchdowns, Richmond Hill is second in the region in team rushing.

Tift County is playing its first season under new head coach Jeff Littleton and is 2-3.

The Blue Devils opened with a 43-0 shut out at Griffin but have just one win since, a 17-14 victory at Bainbridge.
