New school board members sworn-in

MOULTRIE –  Judge Wes Lewis performed the swearing-in ceremony for incoming Colquitt County Board of Education Board Members Beth Cannon, Matthew Clifton, and Brad Gregory on December 19, 2024. Their terms officially begin on January 1, 2025.

Beth Cannon

Beth Cannon ran unopposed for District 6. She was born and raised in Colquitt County. She works as a registered nurse at Colquitt Regional Medical Center – Home Health Services.

She is a graduate of Colquitt County High School. She attended Presbyterian College after graduation, earning a bachelor’s of science in biology and a bachelor’s of science in nursing from the Medical College of Georgia. Cannon has served her community through the Moultrie Junior Woman’s Club, the Moultrie Service League, the Backpacks for Hope program, and R.B. Wright Elementary PTO. She said looks forward to also serving on the Serenity House Board in January 2025. She is married to Chas Cannon, also of Moultrie, and they are the parents of Catherine, 14 and Allie, 13. They are members of the First Presbyterian Church.

Matthew Clifton

Matthew Clifton represents District 3. He is the vice president of Operations/Ancillary Services at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

board member matthew clifton“I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity to serve my district.  I am encouraged by the work of the entire school district over the last few years and look forward to joining in that work. I am excited to join a board where I can advocate for our children, employees, and families,” Clifton said.

He is a graduate of Colquitt County High School.  After high school, he attended the University of Georgia and received his doctor of pharmacy. He served as a clinical pharmacist for nine years before his promotion to Director of Pharmacy for Colquitt Regional. Clifton moved into his current role in 2023. He also serves on various community boards and committees, including Archway and the Colquitt County Career Achievement Award. Clifton is married to Christine, and they have four children, Lyla, 16, Reese, 13, Maggie, 10, and Harper, 3.

 

Brad Gregory

Brad Gregory represents District 2. He is a Colquitt County High School graduate and former educator. He spent more than 20 years in the Colquitt County School District before moving to the private sector.

board member brad gregory“I am excited to continue my support of teachers and students as a member of the Board of Education. Our employees and families deserve great leadership who fully support our teachers as they create meaningful learning experiences for our students,” Gregory said.

He serves on the board of directors for the Moultrie Colquitt County Recreation Authority. He is also president of the board for Moss Farms Diving. Gregory received his bachelor’s degree in business from Mercer University, his master’s degree in educational leadership from Albany State University, and his doctorate in education leadership from Walden University. He is married to Ivie, and they have five children, Case, 20, Trip, 18, Tuck, 17, Beck, 13, and Amelia, 12. They are members of Norman Park First Baptist Church.

The Colquitt County Board of Education meets monthly for a work session at 5:30 p.m. Afterwards, the regular board meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Find a listing of board meeting dates at www.colquitt.k12.ga.us.
