MOULTRIE — The Moultrie American Legion Post 324 will have its annual Poppy Drive on Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 11.
They will be set up at Walmart, Piggly Wiggly, Tractor Supply, Baell Mercantile (ACE Hardware), Stone’s Home Center and on the Courthouse Square (near the Confederate Monument).
On Sep. 27, 1920, the poppy became the official flower of The American Legion family to memorialize the soldiers who fought and died during World War I. In 1924, the distribution of poppies became a national program of The American Legion.
Led by the American Legion Auxiliary, each year members of The American Legion Family distribute poppies with a request that the person receiving the flower make a donation to support the future of veterans, active-duty military personnel and their families with medical and financial needs.
The Moultrie American Legion Post 324 encourages support of this effort to take care of veteran and active duty service men and women and their families.
