MOULTRIE, Ga. — Members of American Legion Post 324 and the Moultrie Lions Club worked the week of Dec. 3-7 at the Colquitt County Food Bank. Food bank director Andrew Christensen also spoke at both organizations recently and both made cash donations and agreed to support the upcoming week.
Volunteers help the food bank in receiving, sorting, storing and distributing food.
Members of the Legion urged veterans and their families to participate in the food bank either by volunteering, donating food or cash, or by signing up if they lost food during the recent hurricane and are needy. The activity at the food bank has recently doubled due to Hurricane Michael and the holiday season, officials said. Particularly needed items are canned, non-perishable items, spaghetti and dry beans. Donations and volunteers for the holiday baskets are also needed.
Many agencies in town can refer the needy to food bank including DFACS, Georgia Pines, Peer Wellness, Southwest Georgia Community Action Council and American Legion. Area churches also volunteer and assist the needy in getting food from the food bank.
