MOULTRIE — The 32nd annual Community Day will take place on Saturday, July 7, between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m followed by a dance from 7 to 11:30 p.m. at William Bryant Park with the tagline “Peace is our dream in 2018.”
Activities for this year’s day includes bounce houses, face painting, swimming, stepping shows, dance shows, and more events for adults such as money management courses, health literacy spades and bingo.

This year the mission remains the same: to bring people together and show them what it really means to be a community.
“Basically, we want the community to come together,” said Roscoe Singletary, facility manager of William Bryant Park and Shaw Gym. “We want everybody to stick together and to look out for each other. People think Northwest is a bad place and it’s not; that’s why we take pride in this event. It helps us take great strides in making the community better.”
Last year, Oakland Raiders wide receiver Seth Roberts, a Moultrie native, participated in Community Day signing autographs and speaking.
“We are trying to do things differently this year,” said Singletary. “Last year it didn’t come together like we wanted it to, but we got good feedback from Facebook and the community. Now we have more people signed up to come and more organizations involved, so hopefully that gets more people here.”
The Community Day event stems from a fatal stabbing of Jackie Pollard’s son in 1986. She started Community Day a year afterwards, hoping that it would bring the community together to put a stop to senseless violence. It has been a staple of the Moultrie-Colquitt County community ever since.
“We want to let them know that peace is our dream in 2018,” said LaShay James, assistant to the facility manager of William Bryant Park and Shaw Gym. “We also want to let them know no more violence.”
