Girls cross country team second

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County girls cross country team placed second behind Westover and the boys were fourth in the Monroe Invitational on Thursday in Albany.

The Lady Packers got top-10 finishes from Carly Banks, who was eighth, and Karlie Brown,who was ninth.

Carly Moore was 12th, Morgan Hayes was 18th and Abbey Taylor finished 20th in her first race.

Colquitt County’s Carlos Charles finished second in the boys race.

Julio Perez was 13th, Marcos Gomez was 28th and Nic Price was 29th.

“And we ran without two of our top five runners in boys,” coach Mell Wier said.

The Packers finished behind Westover, Lee County and Baconton.

“Most everybody knocked a good chunk off of their times,” Wier said.

Colquitt County will be off until it competes in the Westover Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 6.

The meet will have more than 25 teams.

“I’d really like for us to do well in that race,” Wier said.
