Silver advances to championship game

MOULTRIE — Moultrie Silver, the Colquitt County 12-and-under B team, defeated the Colquitt County Gold A team 9-8 on Thursday in final losers bracket game of of the GRPA sub-District III tournament and will play for the title at 6 p.m. today.

Silver will meet Thomasville A, the team that sent it to the losers bracket earlier on Thursday.

Colquitt County Gold had won two losers bracket games, including an 11-2 win over Grady County earlier on Thursday, before meeting Moultrie Silver.

In the victory over Grady County, Megan May had three hits, including two over-the-fence home runs. Skyler Lindsey also had three hits and Matt Creech had two hits.

That sent Colquitt County’s Gold team against its Silver team.

Silver used a seven-run third inning to take a 7-3 lead and tacked on two more runs to get the win.

Gold scored five runs in the fourth inning, but still came up a run short.

Tyler Yost went the first four innings on the mound for Moultrie Silver with Aubrey McCarty finishing up.

McCarty struck out the side in the sixth to seal the victory.

Daren Kent and Tyroni Walker each had two hits for Moultrie Silver. One of Walker’s hits was a home run.

Lindsey had two hits and Creech had a home run for Colquitt County Gold. Dillon Presley and Jim Harrison also had hits for Colquitt County Gold.

In Leesburg, the Colquitt County 10-and-under boys B team was defeated by Bainbridge 8-4 on Thursday and was eliminated from the District III tournament.

Colquitt County Gold, Moultrie’s A team, was off on Thursday and will play for the District championship at 6 tonight.

The 10-and-under B team won its first two tournament games, but was dropped to the losers bracket by Thomasville on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the team managed just nine hits. Andy Bush, Ross Goforth and Dalton Dillon each had two hits. Cole Bryant, Tristin Frazier and Hunter Lott each had one.

“We just did not hit it,” coach Allen Dalton said.
