14-and-under all-stars eliminated

MOULTRIE — Both of the Colquitt County 14-and-under baseball teams entered in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association’s District III tournament in Bainbridge were eliminated on Wednesday.
The Colquitt County A team, which opened tournament play with a 19-2 victory over Bainbridge on Monday, lost its first game on Wednesday 18-6 to Lee County.
The A team then had to play a losers bracket game and fell to Tift County 5-0 to be ousted from the double-elimination tournament.
In Colquitt County A’s first game on Wednesday Mark Lindsey, Ryan Sherling and Taylor Barber each had two hits and Payne Newsome, Daylon Connell, Tyler Dismuke and Russ DeMott each had one hit for Colquitt County.
Dismuke and Lindsey had home runs.
Colquitt County B also opened the tournament with promise, defeating Worth County 18-3 on Monday.
But after a day off, the B team was shut out by Bainbridge 16-0 in its first game on Wednesday.
In the losers bracket, Colquitt County B was eliminated by Thomasville 14-9.
Four teams from the nine-team tournament remain alive heading into today’s games.
Lee County and Bainbridge, the last two undefeated teams, will meet at 5:30 p.m. today with the winner advancing to Friday’s 5:30 p.m. championship game against the losers bracket survivor.
Thomasville and Tift County remain alive in the losers bracket and will face off at 5:30 p.m. today.
The winner will meet Lee County-Bainbridge loser at 7:30 p.m. today.
If a second championship game is needed, it would be played at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
