MOULTRIE — With its Region 1-AAAAA opener looming, the Colquitt County High baseball team will be out to extend a three-game winning streak when it plays host to Lincoln High of Tallahassee at 5:45 p.m. today at Ike Aultman Field.
The Packers appear to have shed the remnants of a seven-game losing streak with two victories over Westover — by 11-1 and 10-3 scores — and another over Thomas County Central, 7-1 last Thursday.
The Packers offense has awakened from an early slumber and the team has receive outstanding outings on the mound from Chance Pitts and sophomore Andrew McDowell over the last three games.
Pitts defeated Westover and Thomas County Central on a pair of two-hitters, going the distance in each game. The first win ended the long losing streak; the second extended the winning streak to three games.
Lincoln took a 10-6 record into Tuesday night’s meeting Rickards High. The Trojans split their four previous games in the Lincoln Spring Break Tournament.
Among their 10 victories is a 13-12 win over Lowndes and a 15-0 five-inning mercy-rule win over Valdosta on March 10 in the Valdosta tournament.
Tonight’s game will be the last before the Packers embark on the first two games of their Region 1-AAAAA schedule.
On Friday, the Packers will travel to Tifton to meet the Blue Devils.
Tift, which travels to Perry today, is 11-1, with only a 10-8 loss to Luella marring its record.
Colquitt will be back at Ike Aultman Field next Tuesday for its region home opener against Valdosta.
The Packers and Wildcats met on March 1 in the Hornet Classic in Adel with Valdosta taking a 12-2, six-inning mercy-rule victory.
