MOULTRIE — Andrew McDowell went the distance and allowed just three runs and four hits as the Colquitt County High baseball team won its second straight game, defeating Westover 10-3 on Tuesday at Ike Aultman Field.
The sophomore left-hander walked just two and struck out five as the Packers raised their record to 3-7.
It was the Packers second win in a row over Westover.
Colquitt defeated the Patriots 11-1 on Saturday in Albany behind a Chance Pitts two-hitter.
“McDowell did a great job,” said Packers coach Jerry Croft. “That was a good confidence thing for him.
“He was throwing strikes and good things happen when you’re throwing strikes.”
McDowell walked the first batter he faced and that runner came around to score. But he issued just one more pass the rest of the night.
The Packers tied the game in the bottom of the first when Andrew Wallace led off with a single and stole second.
Carter Jones followed with the first of his two hits, sending Wallace to third.
Pitts drove in Wallace with a sacrifice fly.
The score remained 1-1 until the bottom of the fourth when the Packers blew the game open, scoring seven runs.
Colquitt added two more runs in the sixth inning to drop Westover to 2-9 on the season.
The Packers had 10 hits, including two each by Jones, Matt Weaver and Sam Heath.
Wallace, Scotty DeMott, Cory Bridwell and Drew Shealy had the others.
The Packers will travel to Thomas County Central for a 5:45 p.m. game on Thursday. Croft said he would start either Weaver or Pitts on the mound.
Colquitt will try to avenge a 17-7 loss to the Yellow Jackets on March 15.
In that game, the Packers led 5-4 before the Yellow Jackets exploded for 13 runs in the final two innings.
