B-team, ninth-grade baseball opens

MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County junior varsity and ninth-grade baseball teams have started their seasons and the B-teamers have split their first two games.

The B-team, under the direction of Craig Pitts and Greg Tillery, won their opener 7-2 over Tift County, banging out 11 hits and giving up just a pair of unearned runs.

Blake Cato led the Packers offensively against the Blue Devils with three hits. Cam Fitzgerald and Ben Cauthen had two each.

Nathan Cashwell, Cody McLean, Corey Tucker and Bo Williams had the others.

The B-team dropped its Tuesday meeting with Lee County in Leesburg, 9-2.

Colquitt managed just three hits from Williams, Stephen Tyus and Jarvis Lambright.

Anthony Cortes started on the mound and went the first four innings. He gave up five runs, but only two were earned. Austin McAlpin and Blake Cato also worked on the mound.

The B-team returns to action today with a 4:30 p.m. doubleheader against Valdosta at Ike Aultman Field.

The ninth-grade team is 2-3 after its 20-1 loss to Lee County on Tuesday.

Coach Daniel Dalton’s freshmen lost their season-opener to Tift County 3-2, but then split a road doubleheader at Valdosta. The freshmen Packers then defeated Bainbridge 13-11 on Monday.

The freshmen play next at 6:30 p.m. Monday against Lincoln High of Tallahassee at Ike Aultman Field.
