Goodman wins two gold medals

MOULTRIE — Kelsey Goodman and Ali Lepech have said farewell to the 14-15 age group in grand fashion.

Goodman, who will dive in the 16-18 age group beginning next month, took first place on both springboards in the Kentucky Diving Invitational held last weekend at the Lancaster Aquatic Center in Lexington.

“Kelsey really did well,” said Moss Farms coach Ed Goodman. “I’m really happy with how she did.”

Goodman’s performances gave Moss Farms Diving three gold medals in the meet.

Lepech, who also will be moving up from the 14-15 age group, won the platform event, finished second on the 3-meter board and was third on 1-meter.

“I’m really proud of Ali,” Ed Goodman said. “To get a first, a second and a third … she did a great job.”

Moss Farms took an all-girls contingent to the meet. Also competing for the Diving Tigers were Elizabeth Ann Kirkland, Ann Perry Blank, Jillian Braun, Anna Aguero and Maddie Qurnell.

Kelsey Goodman was eighth in Friday’s platform event, but went back on Saturday and scored a 390.80 to win the 1-meter event.

Lepech was third on the 1-meter board, scoring a 276.75.

Blank was 11th with a 239.85 and Braun was 15th with a 218.15.

Goodman won on Sunday as well, taking the 3-meter event with a score of 321.30. Lepech was second on Sunday, the final day of competition in the three-day event, scoring a 302.01.

Blank was eighth on 3-meter. Braun was 12th.

Aguero had a fine meet, finishing second on girls 16-18 platform and missing a gold medal by just 1.45 points.

She also was sixth on 1-meter and eighth on 3-meter.

Kirkland was 11th in the 13-and-under girls platform event on Friday, but turned in a fourth-place finish on Saturday in the 1-meter competition. She was 12th on the 3-meter board on Sunday.

Many of the Moss Farms divers are now beginning to prepare for the middle school and high school diving seasons.

The Colquitt County middle school divers are scheduled to take part in a meet sponsored by Marist on Friday.

The high school divers have five meets, including the first one on Jan. 13 in Augusta.
