Goodman places eighth at Junior Nationals

MOULTRIE — Moss Farms Diving’s Kelsey Goodman turned in an eighth-place finish on Friday in the 14-15 girls 1-meter competition at the 2006 Junior National Diving Championships being held in Indianapolis, Ind.
Teammate Ann Perry Blank finished 10th in the event, which was won by Legacy Diving’s Thea Vock.
Vock, who also finished first in the prelims, had a 305.90 in the finals. Ashley Faure took the silver medal. Katrina Young won the bronze.
Blank was eighth in the prelims with a 277.25. Her finals score was 280.75.
Goodman was ninth in the prelims with a 273.80. In the finals, she turned in a 285.40.
The two competed in the platform event on Wednesday, but neither was among the top 12 to qualify for finals.
Goodman and Ali Lepech will be back in the water today to compete on the 3-meter board.
Also competing today for the Diving Tigers will be Anna Aguero and Hannah Moore in the 16-18 girls 1-meter and Ryan Helms in the 16-18 boys 3-meter.
Junior Nationals will conclude on Sunday and Moss Farms divers will compete in each of the final two events.
Helms and Owen Blank will be in the 16-18 boys platform event. Moore and Aguero will take part in the 16-18 girls platform.
Friday was a big day for Kaylea Arnett of The Woodlands, Texas, who won the girls 13-and-under 1-meter, completing a sweep of the championships on all three boards.
Mary Dunnichay won her third silver medal in the event.
Other winners on Friday were Ross Edfort, 13-and-under boys 3-meter; Nick McCrory, 14-15 boys 3-meter; and Thea Vock, 14-15 girls 1-meter. The gold medals were the second for both Edfort and McCrory.
