Helms, Goodman takes fourths at Jr. Nationals

MOULTRIE — Moss Farms divers Ryan Helms and Kelsey Goodman each had a fourth-place finish in the 2006 Speedo Junior National Diving Championships held last week in Indianapolis, Ind.

Six of the seven divers who represented Moss Farms reached the finals in at least one event.

Each event featured the top 12 divers from both the East and West Summer Championships held earlier in the month.

Helms had the team’s best finish, taking a fourth place in 1-meter competition and seventh in the platform in the boys 16-18 age group.

He was 17th in the prelims on the 3-meter board and did not qualify for finals.

Helms was 16th overall among the 56 boys competing at the event.

Goodman, 14, was fourth in the 14-15 girls 3-meter finals and was eighth in the 1-meter competition. She was 17th on the list of 58 girls competing.

Hannah Moore, in the girls 16-18 age group, also reached the finals in two events, finishing 10th on the platform and 11th on 1-meter. She was 15th in the 3-meter prelims and did not qualify for finals.

Also in 16-18 girls, Anna Aguero was 10th on 3-meter, but did not reach finals on either the 1-meter or platform competitions.

Ann Perry Blank, diving in the girls 14-15 age group, finished 10th in the 1-meter finals. She was 15th in the platform prelims.

Ali Lepech, also in the 14-15 girls age group, finished 12th on the 3-meter board. She did not qualify on either the platform or 1-meter springboard.

Owen Blank was 22nd in the prelims in the 16-18 boys platform event.

Helms, Goodman, Moore and Aguero are remaining in Indianapolis to take part in the Senior National Diving Championships that begin on Wednesday.
