4 teams chasing Midget baseball title

MOULTRIE — Southwest Georgia Insurance and Market Barbecue won their games on Tuesday keeping the race for the Moultrie-Colquitt County Parks and Recreation Department’s Midget League baseball championship a close one.

Southwest Georgia Insurance’s 15-8 victory over Quality Employment raises its record to 10-2-1 and has it tied with Harper-McCall for first place.

Market Barbecue edged Edwards Motors 4-3 and is tied with Southwest Georgia Bank with a 10-3 record.

Harper-McCall will try to hold on to a share of first place when it meets Ameris at 7:30 tonight at the Magnolia Sports Complex.

Market Barbecue will face Mobley Plant at 6 tonight.

Southwest Georgia Insurance and Southwest Georgia Bank will square off at 6 p.m. Friday.

Vann Pitts was the winning pitcher and had two hits to lead the Southwest Georgia Insurance victory over Quality Employment.

Cody Carr and Benjamin Collins each had a pair of hits for Quality Employment, now 3-11.

Andrew Eunice was the winning pitcher for Market Barbecue. He got offensive support from Blake Bennett, who had three hits, and Griffin Dunn, who had two. Drew Marchant had three hits and Mitchell Hawes, Josh West, Brett Smith and Cody Parker each had two for Edwards Motors, 4-10.

In Tuesday’s Tiny Mites games, Quality Employment defeated Pizza Inn 13-4, and Baell Mercantile just got by Mobley Plant 11-10.

In Tuesday’s Farm League games, Custom Cabinets won two games to tighten up that race.

Custom Cabinets, Wendy’s and Lazarus each have won 12 games, but Lazarus has lost just two, Wendy’s three and Custom Cabinets four.

Lazarus and Wendy’s meet at 6 tonight. Custom Cabinets will play its third game of the week at 7:15 tonight against Farm Bureau. Southwest Georgia Bank, which is knocking on the door with an 11-4 record, will play Rocky’s at 6 tonight.

Custom Cabinets won its 6 p.m. game on Tuesday by a 13-1 score over Random Design.

Oshay Williams and Ryan Chatman each had three hits and Cole Bryant, Adam Merritt, T.J. Robertson, Matthew Wilkerson and Matthew McCrae each had two hits for Custom Cabinets.

Andy Bush had two hits for Random Design.

In it’s second game, Custom Cabinets dealt Wendy’s just its third loss of the season. Bryant, Merritt and William Bell each had three hits and Williams Chatman, Robertson, McCrae and Preston McMurphy each had two for Custom Cabinets.

Also on Tuesday, McAlpin Signs defeated Rocky’s 12-2.

Ryan Clifton and Ross Goforth each had three hits and Eli Stripling and John Baker had two for McAlpin Signs, 7-8.

Farm Bureau also picked up a Farm League win on Tuesday, defeating Random Design 7-2.

Nick Nichols had three hits and Jay Tolbert, Jared Howsard, Braxton Jones, Matthew Moody and Davis Howell each had two for Farm Bureau, 6-9.

Andy Bush had three and Jim Waldrop and Caleb Jarosh each had two for Random Design.
