Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith of Camilla are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Kristy Rebecca, to Jason David Weakland. He is the son of Nettie and Eric Hatcher of Sylvester, and David and Teresa Weakland of Doerun.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Joseph I. and Verna Smith of Dunnellon, Florida, and the late Hunter and Nancy Strickland of Camilla. She is the sister of Nancy Dearborn of Hawaii.

She is a 2014 graduate  of Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education degree in American Sign Language and English interpreting. She is employed as an interpreter by the Colquitt County Board of Education in Moultrie.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Helen Weakland and the late J. Roy Weakland of Doerun, Margie Herndon and the late Jack Skipper of Sylvester, and Grace and Irvin Hatcher of Sylvester. He is the brother of Jessica Weakland, Jack and Josiah Hatcher of Sylvester and Lilly Weakland of Moultrie.

He attended Thomas University and is employed by Weakland Construction in Doerun.

The wedding is planned for Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Heritage Church in Moultrie.
