Law enforcement thwarts ‘distribution’ plans with June drug busts

MOULTRIE — Folks with the “intent to distribute” a variety of illegal drugs last month were out of luck as members of the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team and the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office Drug Task Force put them out of business.
Details of the incidents were released last week by local law enforcement.
Search warrant finds
multiple drugs
On June 7, a search warrant was executed at 108 Alberta Drive in Moultrie. During the search, a quantity of crack cocaine, powder cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana, a firearm, multiple digital scales, multiple plastic baggies, marijuana grinders and two vehicles were seized, according to the release from the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office.
One male in his mid-50s was arrested and charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of tools during the commission of a crime, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school.
Drug Task Force finds ‘magic mushrooms’
On June 10, the city-county Drug Task Force responded to Sumner Road in reference to a possible illegal mushroom grow. Drug agents conducted an investigation and obtained a search warrant for a residence. The search warrant found an active “magic mushroom” grow and a large quantity of dried mushrooms, the sheriff’s office said. Two firearms were also recovered from the scene.
One male in his early 20s was arrested and charged with possession of a schedule one controlled substance with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Special Response Team warrant turns up meth lab
On June 26, a search warrant was executed at 1402 West Blvd. in Moultrie. During the search, a meth lab was found, along with components and remnants of past activity. A quantity of meth, pills, and a handgun were also recovered during the search, the sheriff’s office said.
Two males in their early 30s were arrested and charged with manufacturing meth, criminal attempt, possession of a schedule two controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and tools of a crime.
Drug Task Force seizes drugs, firearms and vehicle
On June 26, a search warrant was executed at 3214 Sylvester Drive. During the search approximately 10 ounces of marijuana were seized along with three firearms — two of which were determined to be stolen, the sheriff’s office said. A quantity of meth and a vehicle were also seized, along with digital scales and packaging material.
One male in his late 20s was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of meth with intent to distribute, possession of a schedule one controlled substance, possession of tools of a crime, three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, three counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, two counts of theft by receiving stolen property, and four counts of obstruction.
Suspect strikes police cars
On June 27, task force members arrived at 1116 Gene McQueen Road in Moultrie, to attempt a “knock and talk” with the owners of the residence. When officers pulled into the driveway, a male subject got into the driver seat of a silver Nissan Maxima and proceeded to drive in reverse, striking two Georgia State Patrol marked units and a Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office marked patrol unit, the sheriff’s office said.
The Nissan’s driver then sped through the intersection of Gene McQueen Road and Highway 33 South. GSP used a Precision Immobilization Technique to end the pursuit and bring the vehicle to a halt. A search of the vehicle and residence was conducted. The sheriff’s office reported that approximately 13 pounds of marijuana were seized along with digital scales and packaging material.
One male in his mid-60s was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana, four counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, four counts for felony fleeing, tools of a crime, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, failure to stop at stop sign, and failure to maintain lane.
