Known for its work in natural resource management, particularly for efforts to improve habitats of threatened and endangered plants and animals, Reed Bingham State Park contains three miles of the Little River and a 375-acre lake with a total land area amounting to 1,613 acres. Georgia’s state reptile, the gopher tortoise, is one of the many species that call Reed Bingham home.

Daily activities at the park include boating, fishing, picnicking, camping, hiking, miniature golf, biking, and volleyball. There are also two playgrounds servicing children traveling to the park for school outings and those tagging along on family trips. Another great feature is the lake, which includes a beach area for swimming, three boat ramps and two ADA-accessible fishing piers.

Camp sites include 46 tents, trailers, RV campsites — which boast 18 full hookup sewer sites (equipped with cable TV) — and a pioneer campsite, providing adventure-seekers a traditional means of outdoor camping. In addition to this primitive site, the Eagle Island paddle-in pioneer campsite offers campers the chance to kayak to the campground, isolating them from the hustle and bustle of favored hookups. Day use rentals include seven picnic shelters and four group shelters that seat between 50 and 120 people.

The Coastal Plain Nature Trails are systems of interconnecting hiking/biking trails overlapping extensive boardwalks and wildlife viewing areas. Approximately 78 percent of the plant communities occurring in the Coastal Plain can be found along these trails, including the carnivorous pitcher plant, making them some of the most diverse in the country. Visitors are welcomed with a variety of choices in terms of trail difficulty, types of habitats, and wildlife that they may encounter.

Reed Bingham is also a popular destination for birdwatchers and is connected the Southern Rivers Birding Trail. The park hosts a nesting pair of bald eagles. Other famous feathered residents at the park include two species of vultures, various song-birds, and large wading birds.

Visitors are encouraged to stop by the park office to request information on scheduled programming and mosey around the gift shop. Programs found within the park include guided paddles, hikes, wildlife presentations, and other interactive opportunities. Visitors may also contact the park to schedule private programs unique to their group. Updates on upcoming events can be found on gastateparks.org and the park’s Facebook page.
