COLUMN: First Baptist Church — Giving, growing, gaining

The noise of fun filled the air for several blocks of downtown Moultrie as the children giggled and played all the activities at our busy fall festival a couple of weeks ago. Our lawn was filled with bounce houses, potato sack races, and beautifully painted faces. The kids of the community came to enjoy food and fun directly on Main Street.
So much is still ahead for the rest of the fall season and heading into winter. Our weekday preschool gets to visit a pumpkin patch, we get to tackle our final renovations for our chapel, and our youth are undertaking their missions challenge this year, just to name a few. Our Senior Adult ministry just came back from an exciting trip to Pigeon Forge, TN while we launched our Operation Christmas Child shoebox project for 2019 — 400 shoeboxes full of toys, school supplies, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, and other items going to children in need throughout the world.
The congregation of First Baptist Moultrie has already been extremely generous with the giving of their resources and time lately for various projects. They have filled 50 Christmas Backpacks going to children and teens in Appalachia and Southwest Georgia organized by our local Colquitt County Baptist Association, have given to our State Missions goal, and have baked hundreds of cookies and popped loads of popcorn for the fall festival of our neighboring Stringfellow Elementary School.
Besides our weekly Connect Group classes on Sunday mornings at 9:15am, our Worship Services at 10:30am on Sunday, and our mid-week prayer meetings and Bible studies around 6:00pm on Wednesdays, we have a huge endeavor ahead of us — trying to figure out how to best thank and show appreciation for, not just the years of service (10+) our senior pastor, Wayne Woods, has poured into this ministry, but also for his far-reaching influence and time volunteered to the many organizations in which he’s been involved (Colquitt County Baptist Association, the Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce, the Boys & Girls Club of Moultrie-Colquitt County, Crossroads Gospel Rescue Mission, Hope House Pregnancy Center, La Esperanza ministry, Colquitt Christian Academy, the Moultrie Police Department, FCA, Life Under the Son, Kiwanis Club of Moultrie, and the Moultrie YMCA, just to name a few). His retirement reception will be here in our Social Hall on December 8th between 2:00-5:00pm. The community is invited to come as you can to show appreciation for one of the most generous and humble servant leaders we’ve had serve as senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Moultrie. We know his influence has travelled far and wide throughout Moultrie, our county, and beyond. He will be greatly missed.
With much more ahead, there is always something to get involved in and people to connect with at First Baptist Church. We are here to serve the community and invite those new to the area to a safe and welcoming environment to grow in your faith of our Heavenly Father and Savior. Join us anytime for our Sunday School (Connect Group) classes for all ages of those in your family, our weekly worship services, and our prayer meetings and bible studies throughout the week. If you have questions, feel free to call the church office at 985-2103 Monday – Friday for more information or visit our website at firstmoultrie.org. Blessings to all!
