THOMASVILLE — Early voting for the July 24 runoff begins Monday at the elections office at the Thomas County Judicial Center, 325 N. Madison St.

Early voters may cast ballots Monday and Tuesday. Early voting will resume Thursday after the July 4 holiday and continue until Friday, July 20.

Republicans Casey Cagle and Brian Kemp are vying for governor. The winner will face Democrat challenger Stacey Abrams in the November general election.

Also on the Republican ballot are contests for lieutenant governor between David Shafer and Geoff Duncan and secretary of state between Brad Raffensperger and David Belle Isle. The winner of the lieutenant governor runoff will face Democrat nominee Sarah Riggs Amico in November, and the winner of the Republican secretary of state runoff will run against Democrat nominee John Barrow.

On the Democratic runoff ballot is a race for state school superintendent between Otha Thornton Jr. and Sid Chapman. The winner faces Republican incumbent Richard Woods in November.

Early voting is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Monday at the first floor elections office. A valid photo ID is required, said Frank Scoggins, Thomas County elections supervisor.

If you voted in the primary, you must vote the same party in the runoff, unless you voted non-partisan in the primary.

“If you did not vote in the primary election, you can vote in the runoff,” Scoggins said. “If you voted nonpartisan in the primary, you can vote for either party.”.

Thomas County has about 25,000 registered voters. A little more than 1,800 votes were cast in the May primary for a 6.7 percent turnout.
