MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie man who showed up at the hospital on Sunday with a gunshot wound went from victim to suspect after his sister’s stolen car was found wrecked early Monday.
Moultrie police were dispatched Sunday morning when Jacob Thomas Garza showed up at Colquitt Regional Medical Center with a minor gunshot wound.
Garza, 20, had a grazing wound from a bullet, but he did not give police many details about the incident, which reportedly happened between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday.
“The shooting allegedly happened at Southwest (Moultrie) Woodmen of the World Park,” Moultrie Police Department Sgt. Michael Cox said. “The victim was shot in the foot. He had no serious injuries.”
Police searched the area but did not find any evidence to confirm the shooting there.
Early Monday morning, Anna Garza’s stolen Nissan Altima was found wrecked and heavily damaged at the intersection of Veterans Parkway South and Tallokas Road, Cox said. When police arrived at the scene there was no one in the car, but the interior reeked of alcohol and marijuana.
“That victim (Jacob Garza) is a suspect in the theft of a motor vehicle,” Cox said. “Attempts to locate him at his residence have been unsuccessful.”
Police are asking that anyone with information about gunshots in Southwest Moultrie on Sunday morning or about Jacob Garza’s whereabouts contact them at (229) 890-5500.
