MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Colquitt County man who on Tuesday called in a report of a possibly impaired motorist was found with a fatal bullet wound to the head.

Bryan Matthew Owens, 22, reportedly suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the Cobb-Suncrest Memorial Gardens cemetery at 2441 Hwy. 37 W. just outside Moultrie.

The call to Colquitt County 911 came in at about 11:06 p.m. and the first deputy, who was close to that location at the time, arrived in about two minutes, Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Chris Robinson said.

Owens “went to the cemetery last night after calling 911 to report a suspicious vehicle in the area,” Robinson said. “It turned out to be his own. Deputies who went to follow up found him lying on the ground suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head.”

The deputies gave first aid until paramedics arrived. They took Owens to Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, where he died at about 5 a.m.

The call about the reckless driver apparently was made to bring police to the area to find him, Robinson said.
