TIFTON — Hands on Tifton is still looking for volunteers to take part in 18 different volunteer projects this weekend.
The community volunteer day is in its second year, and so far sign-ups are down from the high turnout last year, according to Danny Wallace, one of the event coordinators.
The event is a joint effort between the city government, local churches and area businesses and organizations to bring the community together and beautify the town and surrounding area.
Project sites include the animal shelter, Brother Charlie’s Thrift Store, Collins, the Fulwood Garden Center, the First United Methodist Church community garden, Greenwood Cemetery, House of Hope, Life House, Ruth’s Cottage and The Patticake House, the Salvation Army, the soup kitchen, the United Way, the VFW, the Westside fire station and the Veterans’ Memorial.
There will also be trash clean-ups along several streets, a scrap tire collection and a crop drop by the Society of Saint Andrew.
Adopt-A-Mile teams are also encouraged to clean their adopted streets during the community volunteer day.
Wallace said that while all of the projects on the list are valuable, if no one signs up to volunteer they will have to begin consolidating and cancelling projects.
Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Danny Wallace at (229) 445-5837 or dwallace@tifton.net, Greg Love at (912) 230-6014 or greglove7@hotmail.com, or may sign up online on Facebook @handsontifton and following the sign up link.
