BRANFORD — With some Branford residents still recovering from the damages of Hurricane Irma, the Buccaneers’ football team spent time on Thursday helping the community.
Eight BHS football players helped cut down down trees and clear yards in the Three Rivers area.

“I sent out a text saying be at the school at 9 a.m. if you want to help,” said Buccaneers coach Tim Clark. “One of our teachers, Misty Ward, said some elderly residents had big trees down in their yard.
“It was a no-brainer with the shutdown of school and a bunch of kids with energy.”
Clark said the team and the town are starting to get back to some normalcy.
Branford held practice on both Tuesday and Wednesday, with all but four players present for Wednesday’s practice.
Clark is hoping things continue to improve next week for Branford’s homecoming game with Bishop Snyder.
“I hope everyone gets their power back and everything is back to normal,” he said. “Homecoming is such a big week in town with the parade and at school.”

Branford’s game against Trenton this week will not be played, but Clark said he is still looking for a makeup date with the Tigers.
