“If incidents like this continue, we may look at losing the library,” Meigs Mayor Cheryl Walters said.

Suspects in the vandalism have not been determined, the mayor said.

A public meeting regarding the incident was conducted at the library on June 13.

No residents attended the meeting.

Following the incident, Walters said there are no plans to close the library, which is owned by the City of Meigs.

“It’s too important,” she said.

Walters said future incidents could be prevented by increasing parent involvement.

“We’re going to encourage more parents to come with their children to the library,” she said.

Walters added, “The librarians in Meigs are very dedicated and they have formed a bond with the children of Meigs.”
