Grady BOE construction projects inching closer to completion

CAIRO — Two extensive construction projects for Grady County Schools are inching closer to completion.
An update on construction at Southside Elementary and Cairo High School’s College and Career Academy was discussed at Tuesday’s Grady County Board of Education meeting.
“Those classrooms are coming along,” Superintendent Dr. Kermit Gillard said of Southside’s Building B, which houses second grade and special education classes.
Flooring work for the school’s media center began on Monday, Gillard said.
Work at Building A, which houses administrative offices, is somewhat behind, according to Gillard.
The Grady board unanimously approved four change orders for the Southside facility.
Change orders approved:
•resinous flooring and wall system for all bathrooms for $57,681.33
•outside shunt trip for $1,484.85
•cabinets and fixtures for nurses office and media center for $15,318.75
•front desk slider window for $1,935
Following the update on the Southside facility, the board was updated on the construction of the College and Career Academy.
“It’s coming right along,” said Todd Gainous, College and Career Academy CEO. “It’s starting to shape up inside.”
The College and Career Academy is also set to receive new furniture as office furniture from Innovative Solutions totaling to $56,651 and shelving from Ponders totaling to $6,160 was approved.
The board also unanimously approved a slew of change orders.

•upgrading 10-ton RAC unit to 12.5 ton per engineer’s recommendation for $3,002.52
•adding conduits and circuits between College and Career Academy and ROTC building for $8,530.69
•adding conduits and circuits for conference room for $1,610.09
•cabling for wireless access point for $5,919.60
•adding power to door strikes for $2,679.70
•duct work for $2,913.03
