Not a good idea

Dear editor:
OK. Here we go again. About to spend 2.5 million dollars to replace the four- way stop at Adel Highway intersection with Cool Springs Road with a roundabout.
Our local leaders (city and county) have not learned that we have to pay for federally funded projects. In my opinion this is another waste of money. Just because the state wants to throw away money on unneeded projects, doesn’t mean it has to be done.
We need a few more people with sensitivity to the amount of the federal deficit. I travel the Adel Highway on average of twice per day. The four-way stop that is there now is well marked to prevent anyone from inadvertently running the stop signs. My experience there is that people are courteous. Traffic flows well with give and take making delays reasonable.
The roundabout on Fourth Avenue northeast works quite well because that intersection has five legs. Drivers there were often confused with who had the right of way.
The new roundabout at Sylvester Hwy and Tifton Hwy intersection, in my opinion, is poorly designed. The roundabout should have been at least two lanes wide around the full diameter of the roundabout.
The segments around the periphery are confusing with partial segments that short circuit.
Spare me the song and dance that if we don’t use that money someone else will use it. Looks like another boondoggle to me. (The intermodal transportation center comes to mind).
Come on local leaders show us some real leadership.
