In his honor

Dear editor:

Colquitt County recently lost one of its most valued teachers.

Mr. Tommy Hall died Jan. 6, 2017. He was an inspiration to all teachers in the county.

As a teacher of 49 years and science department chairman for 38 years at Colquitt County High School, he encouraged all science teachers to have students learn science through fun and lab experiences.

His name is known throughout the state as a dedicated and respected teacher. He was named State Science Teacher of the Year in 1978 and again in 1990, bringing Colquitt County fame and prestige.

He was Colquitt County Teacher of the Year in 1985, STAR Teacher in 1979, Milkin Award Winner in 1990 and Presidential Teacher of the Year in 1993.

Mr. Hall conducted workshops at state and national science conferences. His workshops were always packed with teachers just wanting to learn from him.

However, the biggest difference he made in this county was with his students. They enjoyed his classes and learned from him. His intense interest in science and experimentations gave many students the opportunity to attend local, district, state and national science fairs … winning awards at all levels and sparking their interests in science careers.

If you or your children were fortunate enough to have Mr. Hall as a teacher and appreciate the prestige he has brought to our community, we would like to give you the opportunity to contribute to a scholarship in his honor for a deserving science student.

Checks may be made out to Colquitt County High School — T. Hall  Scholarship Fund and mailed to Colquitt County High School, 105 Darbyshire Road, Norman Park, Ga., 31771.

By helping us with this scholarship, you will allow Mr. Hall to continue to influence the youth of our community.

Thank you so much for any amount you feel you can contribute.

Pennie Casteel,

former science teacher,

Moultrie
