MOULTRIE, GA.- Bennie Lewis Smith, 87, of Moultrie, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Cobb Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Woods officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Bridge Creek Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be the Hasan Temple Roadrunners and the First Baptist Church of Moultrie Adult #7 Sunday School Class will serve as honorary casketbearers. 

Born Jan. 28, 1929 in Hartsfield, he was the son of the late Hardy Lewis Smith and Minnie Holland Smith. He retired from the United States Navy and later retired as business office manager from Colquitt Regional Medical Center. He was a member for over 60 years with the Moultrie Masonic Lodge # 381, member of the Hasan Temple and was a member of First Baptist Church of Moultrie.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Giles Smith; brothers, Dorsey L. Smith and Wayne Gus Smith and sister, Edith Dennard.

Survivors include his son, Kevin Smith and Patsy of Valdosta; a daughter, Sandra L. Paige and Patrick of Hahira; four grandchildren, Ronni L. Smith, Galen W. Smith and Lauren, Merinda P. Lowry and Scott and Carson L. Paige; sister, Alma Bescher and William of Moultrie; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Smith of Moultrie; special friend, Betty Terry of Moultrie.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Children Hospital, 2900 North Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Fla. 33607.
