MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County baseball team surrendered 16 runs for the second game in a row, losing in three innings to Lowndes High on Tuesday at Ike Aultman Field 16-0.

The loss came just four days after a four-inning 16-1 loss to Houston County, also at home.

The Packers, with just two games left in the season, fall to 7-16-1 overall and 2-7 in Region 1-AAAAA.

Colquitt will take a four-game losing streak into its non-region meeting with Bainbridge at Ike Aultman Field at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The game will be the final one played at the field, which has been the home of the Packers since 1981.

With the victory, Lowndes needs just to beat Tift County at Noel George Field on Friday to capture the Region 1-AAAAA championship. The Vikings are 7-2 in the region.

The Packers batted just three times and sent only 10 batters to the plate again the Vikings’ Chris Mederos.

Mederos, who went into the game with a 6-0 record and a 1.87 ERA, allowed just two base runners.

Colquitt County leadoff batter Andrew Wallace reached when Vikings first baseman John Simpson could not handle his ground ball. But Wallace was erased on a double play two batters later.

Mederos also walked Cory Bridwell in the third before striking out Wallace to end the game on the rule that ends a game with one team ahead by 15 runs after three innings.

The Vikings had nine hits and took advantage of eight bases on balls.

Starter Matt Weaver gave up six first-inning runs, all of which were earned. He was followed by Andrew McDowell, Bridwell,Tyler Perryman and, finally, John Michael Harrison.

The Packers will conclude the season when they travel to Douglas to meet Coffee High at 7 p.m. Friday.
