Clements deals VFW first loss

MOULTRIE — Clements Pools got four hits from Nathan Cato and three each from Daylon Connell, Taylor Barber and Shelton Lott to deal VFW its first Pony League loss of the season with an 11-9 win on Monday at the Magnolia Sports Complex.

Connell pitched into the fifth inning and got the win. Stephen Moore finished up for Clements, now 6-1.

Russ DeMott, Ryan Ward and Tyler Powell each had two hits for VFW, now 7-1.

VFW won the earlier meeting between the two teams 7-1. They will meet again at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 18.

In Monday’s other Pony League game, Southwest Georgia Bank won its first game of the season, defeating Ameris 15-12.

Payne Newsome was the winning pitcher. Travis Baker and Jamiel Tyson each had two hits for Southwest Georgia Bank, now 1-6.

Jacob Tompkins, Christopher Johnson and Don Mims each had two hits for Ameris, 2-5.

In its first game after its 4-4 tie with Harper-McCall, Southwest Georgia Insurance romped over Davis Insurance 15-1 in Monday’s Midget League action.

Vann Pitts was the winning pitcher. Dillon Frazier, Tyler Yost and Tanner Strickland each had two hits and Tyrone Walker hit a home run for Southwest Georgia Insurance, now 6-1-1.

Jimmy Skeen was the winning pitcher and had two hits as Southwest Georgia Bank edged Ameris 4-3 in Monday’s other Midget League game. Andrew Carlton and Corey Moore also had two hits for Southwest Georgia Bank, now 6-2.

Matthew Gerald hit safely three times for Ameris, now 0-8.

In Monday’s Farm League action, Lazarus raised its record to 7-2 with a 17-2 victory over Random Design.

Mack Hathcock, Jacob Flinchum and John Gray led the Lazarus offense with three hits each.

Steven Lloyd, Austin Lasseter, Braden Flinchum and Eric Gould chipped in two hits apiece.

Andy Bush had two hits for Random Design 0-9.

Jay Tolbert had two hits as Rocky’s defeated Farm Bureau 10-0 in Monday’s other Farm League game.

In Tiny Mites on Monday, Mprints won over Winn-Dixie 11-6 and Southwest Georgia Bank defeated Baell Mercantile 11-3.
