MOULTRIE — Colquitt County’s non-Region 1-AAAAA game against Lee County on Wednesday in Leesburg was over pretty quickly.
After the Packers failed to score in the top of the first, the Trojans scored 11 times in the bottom of the inning and went on to a 16-2, five-inning victory.
The loss was the second in a row for the Packers, who fall to 5-10 as they prepare to go to Warner Robins on Friday for a region game against Houston County.
Colquitt had just four hits, all of which came in the top of the fourth and produced the Packers only two runs.
Carter Jones, Chance Pitts, Tyler Perryman and Scotty DeMott had the hits.
The score was much like the one when the two teams played in Moultrie on March 8 and the Trojans won 15-2 in five innings.
On Wednesday, the Trojans took advantage of eight walks, a hit batsmen and six hits to roll to the big first inning.
Sophomore Andrew McDowell hit the leadoff batter and proceeded to walk three batters and give up two hits before giving way to John Michael Harrison.
The freshman left-hander walked four and surrendered four hits before Scotty DeMott and Tyler Perryman each recorded an out to retire the side.
Perryman retired the Trojans in order in the second, but gave up a three-run homer in the third and a two-run homer in the fourth.
“We’ve just got to get refocused,” Packers coach Jerry Croft said. “We had taken some steps forward and now we’ve taken some backward steps. We’ve just got reverse the backwards steps.
“But we’ve got a long way to do. We’ll play them one game at a time and see how things shake out.”
