9th-grade baseball team on a roll

MOULTRIE — Back on March 22, the Colquitt County ninth-grade baseball team lost 10-6 to Westover and dropped to 3-5 for the season.
Since then, the freshmen Packers have won five in a row, including a 9-1 victory over Lincoln High on Tuesday in Tallahassee.
The ninth-graders will take an 8-5 record today to Valdosta where they will meet Lowndes at 6:30 p.m.
Clark Coleman did the pitching against Lincoln on Tuesday and got the win.
The freshmen Packers got two hits from Jebb Cato, William Oliver and Chris Phillips.
Coleman, Jon Michael Harrison, Corey Hancock and Adam Stanfill each had one hit.
The freshmen Packers turnaround began last Thursday with an 11-1 victory over Tift County.
On Saturday, Colquitt swept a doubleheader from Cook High.
The Packers won the first game 9-8, with Andrew Clark and Jebb Cato pitching.
Judd Cato had three hits in the game. Harrison and Coleman had two and Jebb Cato, Oliver, Phillips, Hancock and Scotty Green each had one hit.
Phillips pitched the second game against Cook and took an 11-2 victory.
Jebb Cato had three hits in the second game. Judd Cato and Phillips each had two and Harrison, Oliver, Coleman, Stanfill and Michael Amore each had one.
The winning streak reached four games with a 6-0 victory over Thomas County Central on Monday.
Corey Hancock pitched the shutout and contributed a base hit.
Oliver had three hits to lead the Packers offense. Harrison had two and Jebb Cato and McClellan Mobley joined Hancock in contributing one hit.
Although school is out for spring break next week, the freshmen will travel to Thomas County Central to meet the Yellow Jackets on Tuesday.
