Frye drives in four as Bucs run-rule Wolves

BRANFORD, Fla. — With two important district games coming up, the Branford High School softball team got off to a good start this week with a 15-0 win against St. Francis Catholic on Monday.

Brittany Frye hit two doubles and Branford scored 15 runs in its first two at-bats to end the game by run-rule after three innings.

Frye lined a bases-clearing double to center field in the second inning that scored Bella Valdes, Madison Lloyd and Alexis Easler. Branford’s next hitter, Kayley Walker, tripled to score Frye for the Buccaneers’ final run.

MacKenzie Frye pitched one inning and Walker pitched the final two, combining to no-hit St. Francis Catholic (0-11).

BHS (6-3, 0-3 District 7-1A) faces Dixie County on Thursday and Trenton on Friday. Branford coach Oscar Saavedra is hoping for a good week, and a strong second half of the season for his six seniors.

“We’re going to put in some hard work this week and hopefully come out with two wins,” Saavedra said. “I lose six girls this year — key players. I’m hoping for them we finish off on a great note.”

Seniors Delani Cannon and Cameron Cassube both reached base twice. Cannon had two RBIs and Cassube scored two runs.
