Black Sox win tournament

MOULTRIE — The Georgia Black Sox won three of four games in a three-team tournament held in Leesburg last weekend and took the championship on run differential.

The tournament featured the Moultrie-based Black Sox, the Macon Stars and the Perry Predators.

Each team played the teams twice in the tournament.

The Black Sox opened the tournament with a 12-5 victory over the Macon Stars.

Tyler Yost was the winning pitcher.

Yost also had two hits and got further offensive support from Matt Gerald, who had three hits; Blake Bennett and Dustin McAlpin, who also had two hits; and Daren Kent, Preston Berry and Alex Abbott, each of whom had one hit.

Yost had four RBIs in the game to help his own cause. Bennett, Abbott, McAlpin and Gerald had the others.

The Black Sox then defeated Perry 5-1.

Kent and Yost each had a pair of hits and Berry contributed a big home run and had two RBIs.

Abbott and Aubrey McCarty each had one hit. McCarty also drove in two runs and Kent drove in one.

McCarty went the distance on the mound.

The Black Sox lost their next game, falling to Macon 7-6. The team had just five hits, including two by Abbott and one each by Bennett, Kent and Gerald.

But the Black Sox finished strong, blanking the Predators 8-0.

Abbott and McCarty combined to throw the shutout.

Kent had two hits and Abbot, McCarty, Yost and Garrett Pearce had the others.

McCarty had two-run home run. Kent had team’s other RBI.
