MOULTRIE, GA. — On Monday, February 5th, Sterling Center Surgery and Medicine physicians will be discussing hernias and treatment options, and providing free screenings for attendees. Hosted at the Sterling Center, the event will take place from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Dr. Thomas Estes, Dr. Howard Melton and Dr. Amber Holt will discuss hernias and hernia treatment using the minimally invasive Da Vinci Surgical Robot.
Patients suffering from hernias may experience symptoms including: pain, discomfort, nausea, and a localized swelling on the surface of the abdomen or groin area. It is important to note that not all patients experience symptoms, which is why screening is absolutely imperative. If left untreated, hernias can present life-threatening complications. While hernias are typically thought to be more common in men, women can also develop them.

“There can be a stigma around hernia treatment because of patient perceptions regarding surgery,” said Dr. Melton. “One of the major goals of this clinic is to dispel these misconceptions and advise people about the safe, simple procedures using our robotic-assisted technology,” he said.
The Da Vinci surgical robot is also used for bariatric procedures like the Gastric Sleeve. “We have seen incredible results from patients who have undergone the Gastric Sleeve procedure using the Da Vinci Surgical Robot,” said Dr. Holt. “Using minimally invasive techniques has transformed what used to be an extensive surgery. We can now perform the same procedure with just a few small incisions.” Dr. Holt and Dr. Melton will also answer questions from patients who are interested in a bariatric procedure.
This event is open to the public and anyone interested in viewing the Da Vinci Surgical Robot is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be provided. Guests can R.S.V.P. by calling 229-890-3552 or by visiting the Sterling Center’s Facebook page. Pre-registration is appreciated, but walk-ins are welcome to attend. The Sterling Center is located at 4 Live Oak Court, Moultrie, GA.
