ALBANY – William Brooks, 78, of Albany, died Thursday, Jan. 21, surrounded by his family.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the interment in the church cemetery, 7053 Georgia Highway 112, Camilla. Rev Jeff Barker and Rev Ronald Barrett will officiate. Pallbearers will be Mike Collins, Donald Brooks, Keith Shirah, Ricky Shirah, Alan Norman, and Tim Smith. Honorary pallbearers include Ace Darden, Jerry Corbin, Raymond Gibson, Cary Cox, Keylon Thompson, Terry Lee, and Charlie Bryan.

Known as “Billy” by his family and friends, he was born January 10, 1938, in Ty Ty, and lived his early years in Worth County. He and his wife of 38 years, the late Shirley G Edwards, raised their family in Mitchell County. After serving in the U S Army, he became a 33 year employee of Merck Chemical Co until his retirement. In addition to farming, Billy and Shirley own and operated Baconton Hardware & Supply for many years.

Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Grace Edwards; his parents, Henry Watson and Ruby Jane Brooks of Doerun; a son-in-law, Ashley Griffis of Evans, Ga.; and a brother, Carroll (Helen) Brooks of Stockbridge, Ga.

Survivors include a son, Ken (Debra) Brooks of Albany; a daughter, Sharon (Ashley) Griffis of Evans, Ga.; three grandchildren, Dusty (Heather) Brooks of Baconton, Ga, Will Bryant of Evans, Ga., and BJ (Carrie) Willis of Scooterville; great-grandchildren, Ryder and Azlynn Brooks, Hayden Coker, all of Baconton, Cora Bryant of Evans, Ga., and Austin and Gracie Willis of Scooterville; his companion, Annette Duke of Albany; sisters, Helen (Fritz) Holloway of Moultrie, Doris (Harvey) Shirah of Kathleen, Fla., Christine (Ray) Norman of Moultrie, and Patricia (JC) Bell of Doerun; and a brother Bobby (Reba) Brooks of Moultrie.

The family will receive friends Saturday, January 23rd from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home, 410 E Broad Street, Camilla.
