Colquitt notes: Packers spring
football to begin on April 29

MOULTRIE – The Colquitt County football team will begin spring practice on April 29.
The Packers will practice nine days leading up to the 7 p.m., Thursday, May 15, spring game at Coffee High in Douglas.
The April 29 practice will be at 3:40 p.m.
Colquitt then will meet at 6:30 a.m. on May 1, May 3 and May 5, before holding another 3:40 p.m. session on Tuesday, May 6.
Coach Sean Calhoun’s fourth Packers team will then go at 6:30 a.m. again on May 8, May 9 and May 13.
The final pre-spring game practice will be at 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday, May 14.
Preparations for the 2025 season also include a 7 p.m., August 7, scrimmage at Bainbridge.
The season will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 15, against Benedictine in the Hawg Pen.
The rest of the schedule includes Aug. 22 at home against Monroe; Aug. 29 at North Gwinnett; Sept. 12 at Lee County; Sept. 19, Homecoming against Rickards; Sept. 26 at Lowndes; Oct. 3 at home against Valdosta; Oct. 10 at home against Tift County; Oct. 24 at home for Senior Night against Camden County; and Oct. 31 at Richmond Hill.
Of this and that:
• The Colquitt County slow pitch softball team opened its 2025 season by dropping a doubleheader at West Laurens, 19-4 and 19-0.
The Lady Packers play their first home games on Wednesday, March 5, in a doubleheader against East Laurens at Packer Park.
• The Colquitt County varsity boys soccer team fell to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in Region 1-6A when it was defeated 5-2 on Friday at Richmond Hill.
• The Colquitt County middle school Black soccer teams remain unbeaten after getting a sweep at Tift County on Wednesday.
The girls are now 7-0 and are still unscored on after a 2-0 victory. The Lady Packers goals were scored by Maya Meza and Dyi James.
The boys, also 7-0, won 3-0 over the Blue Devils.
Hudson Champion scored unassisted with 18:06 left in the match to put the Packers up 1-0.
Ivan Pimentel scored with 6:44 remaining. Trotter Tomlinson got the assist on a corner kick.
Brandon Mata got the match’s final goal with 43 seconds remaining. Daniel Perez assisted.
The middle school Black teams play again on Wednesday, March 5, at Thomas County Central.
The Colquitt County junior varsity boys raised their record to 3-0-1 with a 2-0 win over Lowndes on Tuesday.
Carlos Valencia-Garcia scored both goals for the Packers.
