As August came to a close, multitudes of patients — generations of them — said goodbye to Dr. Patty June, who has served as a pediatrician in Moultrie for 35 years.

“When I came here, they told me, ‘Moultrie can’t keep a pediatrician,’” Dr. June told writer Wayne Grandy. “I viewed it as a challenge.”

Colquitt County is honored that Dr. June accepted that challenge.

So many in our community thank God she was there when their children needed her lifesaving ministrations.

Elsewhere in this magazine, we look at a new phenomenon in Moultrie: food trucks.

We’d seen them on TV and during visits to much larger cities, but until around 2000 Moultrie had no food trucks. Then Martin Nunez opened Tacos Del Milenio. In 2018, Nunez was able to park the food truck and open a traditional restaurant, but he started a trend that’s blossomed in the last couple of years. Now Moultrie boasts almost a half-dozen such trucks featuring Mexican, Italian and American cuisine.

And speaking of new — Matthew Brown sits down with Justin Rogers as he gets ready for his first season as head coach of the Colquitt County High School Packers.
