Friendship Missionary Baptist to hold Youth Conference Saturday

MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Friendship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Alfred Jones will have its Youth Conference for ages 7-18, sponsored by the church youth department, on Saturday, May 18, starting at 8 a.m. with breakfast and registration.

The conference is divided into two sessions. The first session, titled “Stepping Up,” will be presented by Intercessor Tanya Monts, Bro. Deion Mapp, Sis. Avis Smith, Sis. Bria Wallace and Sis. Sheila Hill, followed by a Praise Dance by the REAL Church Praise Dancers.

The second session, titled “Transforming Lives,” will be presented by Bro. John Strong, Sis. Ishia Dawson, Min. Wilma Hadley and Sis. Lucy Peterson. There will be lunch served from noon until 1 p.m., followed by praise and worship then the main speaker, the Rev. Donovan Maxwell Jr., pastor of White Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Reynolds, Ga.

On July 24, 1990, Donovan K. Maxwell Sr. and Patricia Manson Solomon gave birth to Donovan Jr. His grandmother, Mattie D. Manson, reared him in Fort Valley, Ga. Maxwell is 28 years old and is the eldest of eight children. As a student, he attended the public schools of Peach County and is a graduate of the Class of 2008. While in high school, he was named Mr. Senior.

He is a proud graduate and alumnus of Fort Valley State University, Class of 2013. He completed his Bachelor in Middle Grades Education with emphasis in math and science. While at Fort Valley State, he was a member of the Baptist Student Union, where he served as the local and national president in 2010 to 2011. He is also a fellow of the Thurgood Marshall Teacher Quality and Retention Program, Houston, Texas.

In January 2009, he preached his first public sermon and was licensed as a minister. Shortly after, he was ordained on January 2012, by Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. As a member of Shiloh, he serves in many capacities: Chairman of the Membership Ministry, Bible Study/Vacation Bible School teacher, vocalist for both the Male and Gospel Choirs, Media Ministry and associate minister.

In September 2012, he was called as the assistant pastor and Bible study instructor for the Antioch Baptist Church, Butler, Ga. While at Antioch, he has conducted workshops, restructured the choir, trained and ordained deacons, and helped to establish vision and ensure that the church was debt-free and thriving in spiritual growth and maturity, according to a press release.

On Dec. 2, 2017, he was called as pastor of White Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Reynolds, Ga. Currently, he is a fifth grade science and math teacher at Northcutt Elementary, College Park, Ga. He is also a proud member of Kappa Zeta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Warner Robins, Ga.

Maxwell has also served as an instructor for the Georgia Missionary Baptist Congress of Christian Education. For the past two years, he has taught in the youth division the course, Let’s Get Social.

Maxwell spends his down time with family and friends. He enjoys traveling, bowling, going to the movies, and seeing people happy.

There will be several churches from the community participating.

The Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 421 Sixth Ave. N.W., has service every Sunday with early morning service at 8 a.m., Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., and 11 a.m. worship service.
