Bundy, Purvis win regional honors in writing competition

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Two Colquitt County students were recently named regional winners in the 2019 Young Georgia Authors writing competition.
First grader Lydia Bundy of Doerun Elementary and fourth grader Cade Purvis of Sunset Elementary were recognized at the regional level by the Coastal Plains Regional Education Services Agency.

This writing contest, sponsored by Georgia Council of Teachers of English, is open to students in grades K-12 and includes all types of writing such as short stories, poetry, essay, research reports, and other forms.
“The purpose of Young Georgia Authors (YGA) writing competition is to encourage students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, to provide a context to celebrate their writing successes, and to recognize student achievement in arts and academics,” according to GCTE.
Prior to winning the regional event, Bundy and Purvis won for their grade levels in the system-wide competition. Other system winners included:
• Kindergarten, Sadie Laurel Cato of R.B. Wright.
• Second grade, Joelle Barnwell of Sunset.
• Third grade, Ty Linnenkohl of Hamilton.

• Eleventh grade, no entry.
• Twelfth grade, Katherine Monroy of CCHS.
