VALDOSTA — Routine maintenance forced about 20 students in Reade Residence Hall at Valdosta State University to find other water sources.

Due to repairs on an outside water pipe, water was shut off in Reade Saturday and restored Tuesday, leaving students without running water for four days, according to university officials.

“The water issue was a miscommunication between staff and the students,” said Jessica Pope, communications and media relations coordinator. “The university has taken the necessary steps to update procedures to ensure this does not happen again.”

Students were told to shower in other residence halls or at the University Campus Recreation Center, according to university officials.

“Any time we have a loss of water, we always provide an optional hot shower facility for the students either in another residence hall or the student recreation center,” Pope said.

She said the university thought Georgia Residence Hall would be affected, but it wasn’t.

While VSU is closed for spring break until Friday, all of the residence halls remain open, Pope said.
