Suwannee, Branford, Lafayette football players named to all-star squads

Five area football players have been selected to play in all-star games. 

Branford’s Caleb Kessler and Jevin Johnson, along with Lafayette’s Ben Massey and Xavier Fleming, will compete in the North Central Florida All-Star Classic. The game is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala.

Suwannee’s Carlton Hall will participate in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association (FACA) All-Star Classic Saturday at 1 p.m. at The Villages High.

Kessler, an offensive tackle, led the way up front this season for a Buccaneers team that ran for 2,373 yards and averaged 5.8 yards per carry. Johnson played linebacker and led Branford with 91 tackles.

Massey had 47 receptions, 1,088 yards receiving and 18 touchdowns. He also had good defensive stats with 47 tackles and three interceptions. Fleming, a linebacker, had 94 tackles and two interceptions.

Hall rushed for 1,133 yards and 12 touchdowns in his third season as Suwannee’s starting back. 

This marks the second straight year a Bulldog has made the FACA All Star game after Tadavious Freeland was selected in 2017. 

SHS coach Kyler Hall will serve as an assistant coach for the North squad in the FACA All-Star Classic.
