Local attorney sworn in as associate Juvenile Court judge in Whitfield County
DALTON, Ga. — Jason Souther, a local attorney, was sworn in as associate Juvenile Court judge for Whitfield County during a ceremony recently at the county courthouse. Juvenile Court Judge Philip Woodward administered the oath to Souther in the courtroom that was packed with family, friends, co-workers and other well-wishers. Souther will continue to work for the local law firm of Little, Bates, Kelehear & Toland P.C. In his new position with Juvenile Court he will handle traffic court and truancy court cases approximately a day and a half each week, helping to lessen the strain of the increased workload of the court.

Community reunion scheduled
VALDOSTA, Ga. — The Valdosta-Lowndes Metropolitan Section of National Council of Negro Women will host its Seventh Annual Community-Wide Family Reunion. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Scott Park, 1101 Old Statenville Road, organizers said. Families will gather for free entertainment, food, games, activities and family fun, organizers said. The event will provide free resources in a family-focused atmosphere, organizers said. Vendor and sponsorship opportunities are available. A portion of the event proceeds are traditionally given to homeless students in area school districts. Alcohol ink artist to display works at Georgia Museum of Agriculture
TIFTON, Ga. — An exhibition on Sept. 16 featuring the works of local artist Donna Falcone will splash the walls with vivid color at the Art Gallery at the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Georgia Museum of Agriculture and Historic Village. An alcohol ink artist, Falcone is also the illustrator of the children’s book, “A is for Azure: The Alphabet in Colors.” Titled “From Azure to Zaffre,” the exhibit opens with a 2 p.m. reception on Sept. 16 and runs through Jan. 19, 2019. The opening reception is free and open to the community and will feature a demonstration and a brief lecture by Falcone, a question and answer session with exhibit curator Polly Huff, and gallery tours with the artist. Following opening day on Sept. 16, “From Azure to Zaffre” will be open from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturdays. Admission to this exhibit will be included in the GMA’s daily admission and will be free with a valid GMA Season pass. Pioneer Day Art Show upcoming
MAYO, Fla. — The Mayo Woman’s Club is calling all artists and crafters for the annual Pioneer Day Art Show set for Saturday, Oct. 13.

This year’s theme is “Pioneer Living.”
The event will be held at the Lafayette State Bank lobby with members of the Woman’s Club coordinating the event.
Cash prizes will be awarded for first through third place in each category, as well as a cash prize for the Annette Croft-Best of Show award, and the Judy Bletard-Best of Youth award.
Entrants also should note that the public will be able to vote on favorites for both adult and youth competition. There is also a cash prize for the work that best exemplifies this year’s theme.
