TIFTON — A $4 million water, sewer and stormwater priority project budget was approved at the Mar. 19 regular meeting of the Tifton city council.

The project will upgrade the infrastructure and pipes in the city limits, some of which are decades old.

Two areas that are at the top of the list for improvements are the Pebblebrook neighborhood and the area around Matt Wilson Elementary School.

The council also unanimously approved the Commerce Way sidewalk project.

The project will replace the existing unusable sidewalk with plants, will add in crosswalks across Commerce Way and will put in a handicapped accessible parking spot in the parking lot.

An enterprise zone incentive request for Tifton Magnolia Properties, located at 101 S. Tift Ave., was approved by the council.

The council voted to make changes to section 1.7 of the personnel policy for the city.

The council voted to release funds from two of four CDs co-owned by the city and the City of Nashville that Nashville put as collateral to secure the loan to pay for the pipeline. The original agreement, according to city attorney Rob Wilmot, said that as the loan was paid down the monies in the CDs would be released for Nashville to use.

Tift County Tax Commissioner Chad Alexander presented the council with an update on four city properties that were slated for demolition. Alexander had previously suggested that the city remove the demolition liens in order to get them sold. After the demolition liens were removed all four properties were sold.
