Police: Suspect found with stolen medicine

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Moultrie police say a burglary suspect they chased down Tuesday had in his possession prescription pills taken from the victim’s residence, as well as suspected cocaine.

“An 87-year-old lady came home and found him coming out her back door,” Moultrie Police Department Lt. Freddie Williams said.

Odessa Davis reported seeing the suspect exit her residence in the 800 block of East Central Avenue.

“We saturated the area and were able to find him walking in the area of the 500 block of Eighth Street Southeast, about four or five blocks away from where the incident occurred,” Williams said.

Police charged the man, Eric Ryles, 38, 1513 Sunrise Ave., with burglary and possession of cocaine.

• Laportia King, 29, 802 Sixth St. N.W., was charged Tuesday with cruelty to children and battery.

Police said that King is accused of striking a child in the face with a belt while spanking him.

• Ruben Zavala, 33, 209 Halls Trail, was charged Wednesday with driving while license withdrawn and speeding.

• Leeroy Sheppard, 35, 409 31st Ave. S.E., was charged Tuesday with stalking, harassing phone calls and terroristic threats and acts.

Sheriff’s Office

• Nicholas Mincey, 19, 4651 Hwy.. 25 S., Millen, Ga., was charged Tuesday with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and crossing guard lines with drugs.

Mincey is accused of possessing marijuana at Colquitt County Correctional Institution.

• Matthew Lee Hunt, 32, 210 Liberty Hill Road, Blakely, was charged Friday with failure to appear.

Georgia State Patrol

• Douglas Gordon Palmer Jr., 37, 5664 Hwy. 262 N., Pelham, was charged Tuesday with driving while license withdrawn.

• Ashley Courtney Jackson, 28, 412 Ninth Ave. S.E., was charged Tuesday with possession of marijuana and child restraint violation.

Thefts

• Ellie Davis, 7100 block Highway 111, Meigs, reported Wednesday that a male relative stole $280 from envelopes in a bedroom at her residence.

Davis told police that after spending some time in the room the male left hurriedly. When she checked the room she found the envelopes had been opened and that the cash was gone. He also previously had stolen a gun and jewelry, she reported.

• Vic Patel, 100 block Silverwood Court, reported Sunday the theft of property and money totaling $102 from a 2013 Ford F-150.

• Crystal Dawn Conger, 500 block Clarence Jones Road, reported Tuesday that a male acquaintance struck her in the temple with a flashlight.

The reported incident occurred at about 9 p.m. Monday in the 1300 block of U.S. Highway 319 North.

Conger told police that she asked the man to give her a ride to Doerun. As she was trying to call her sister on the phone the man took it, and during the ensuing struggle he hit her with the flashlight.

The man ran away behind a store before police arrived and no arrest was made.

• Danny Freeman, 100 block East Mulberry Street, reported Wednesday that a male acquaintance “rushed him” after which they fell to the floor of his porch and scuffled.

Freeman told police that the man became angry when he told him to leave. He also reported that a screen door was broken during the incident.
