- More than 40 volunteers participated in Meals of Hope on Feb. 12.
MOULTRIE, Ga. — On Feb. 12 the Colquitt County FFA Chapter kicked off its annual FFA Week by inviting all members and people out in the community to come and take part in the Meals of Hope community service project.
Meals of Hope is a food packaging organization with the priority of keeping the food packed in the United States. The Meals of Hope’s motto is “Communities coming together to end hunger!” and the Colquitt County FFA Chapter wanted to lend a helping hand for the people in the Colquitt County community.
Statistics show that 1 out of every 6 Americans are food insecure and 18.7 percent of Georgians do not know where their next meal will come from.
The chapter had more than 40 volunteers who spent their afternoon packing meals. Together, the FFA Chapter, the CCHS Drama Club led by Betsy Jones, and several community volunteers packed 10,560 meals that were delivered to the Colquitt County Food Bank.
Victoria Barber, community service project chairman, planned and directed the entire event. She spread the word and opened this service project not only to FFA members but to the community as well.
“Although this was a huge task, it was a worthy endeavor to help fight hunger in our community. I am proud of all the people who volunteered their time,” Barber said.
