Renovations to Veterans Stadium are ongoing. Current work includes installing concrete curbing for the field, bathroom renovations, and handicap accessible seating and areas.

A 30-foot platform will be used for handicap accessible seating at the stadium.

“I think it will be a popular area for folks who can’t get up in the stadium,” said David Cone, athletic committee member.

City Schools Director of Operations Hank Townsend noted difficulty finding a company to install steel needed for the ramping prior to the first football game.

The main water feed runs directly under the field, according to Townsend. Repaired twice since stadium work began, a new feed is set to be installed.

Other stadium discussion included:

• plan for emergency medical technicians to get on the field in the event of a player injury; no heavy equipment can be on the field once the synthetic turf is installed.

• the second phase of the stadium project being split into two parts.

• the moving of the ADA ramp for better accessibility.

Other athletic committee discussion included the athletic financial report.

The city schools system also is in the midst of other summer projects.

Completed projects include the Scholars Academy sidewalks and playground repair at Jerger Elementary.

“The company came in and did it in one weekend,” Townsend said of the Jerger playground.

Multiple projects are in progress, including removing walls and adding doors to old Advancing Individual Minds (AIMS) rooms, installing dance floor and mirrors in old AIMS rooms, district-wide painting and pressure washing, among others.
