Rev. Steve C. Purvis

MOULTRIE — The Rev. Steve C. Purvis, 58, of Moultrie, died Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Baker/Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Josh Purvis, the Rev. Ricky Purvis and the Rev. Stephan Massey.

Rev. Purvis was born July 22, 1957, in Colquitt County, son of the late Rev.  George C. Purvis and Imogene White Purvis. His family recalled him as “a faithful servant of the Lord, pastor of 40 years, with the last 14 years at Open Door Christian Center.”

Survivors include his wife, Lynn Giddens Purvis of Moultrie; son, Joshua Purvis and wife Stephanie of Moultrie; goddaughter, Jessica Boyd and husband Alan of Moultrie; brothers, Ronald Purvis and wife Evie of Moultrie and the Rev. Ricky Purvis and wife Wanda of Moultrie; sisters, Martha Ann Bufford of Moultrie and Peggy Taylor and husband Harlon of Moultrie; and grandchildren, Stephen Cade Purvis, Nora Kate Purvis, Jeremiah Cole Boyd, Clayton Jack Boyd and Georgia Lynn Boyd.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer Purvis, Troy Purvis and Rex Purvis; and a sister, Dianne Griffin.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. today, Jan. 10, at the funeral home.
