Colquitt girls softball ousted by East Coweta

 East Coweta banged out 25 hits and swept a Class AAAAAA second-round doubleheader from Colquitt County in Sharpsburg on Wednesday, winning 8-2 and 9-1.

The Lady Packers finish the season with  17-16 record.

East Coweta will head to Columbus as part of the Elite Eight with a 31-3-1 record.

“They didn’t do anything we didn’t expect,” coach John Phillips said. “They hit it up and down the lineup. And their pitching was good.

“We just didn’t make enough plays. It’s just disappointing we didn’t play a little better.”

Colquitt had just three hits in the first game, singles by Shameka Reynolds, Cheyenne Tillman and Shleby Rakestraw. Reynolds and Rakestraw each drove in a run.

East Coweta jumped out with three runs in the first inning of the first game and never looked back.

The Indians led the second game 5-1 heading into the sixth, when they scored four more runs to put the game away.

Only five of the nine second-game runs were earned.

The Lady Packers had four hits in the second game, singles by Reynolds, Rakestraw, Kasie Ricks and Cheyenne Sumner.
